Yes. Shu embroidery — 蜀绣 — is a sit-down with a needle in Chengdu. Silk on silk, a surface that looks painted until you lean in. That is the craft. A locked van that treats Anjing as stop three on a shopping circuit is a different SKU.

The stitch is a national listing, not a mall stop
The China Intangible Cultural Heritage Digital Museum records 蜀绣 as national item Ⅶ-21, first batch, 2006, declared by Chengdu, Sichuan. The protection unit named on the listing is the Chengdu Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center. The official description places the craft in the western Sichuan plain — local satin and loose thread, twelve major stitch families and more than a hundred named stitches. That is a technique with a place. It is not a souvenir aisle.
Sichuan's own chronicle office keeps the same frame. The Sichuan Local Chronicles page on Anjing as the embroidery hometown calls Anjing one of the craft's birthplaces and a living base for workshops and training. The Sichuan Department of Culture and Tourism reply on 蜀绣 and 蜀锦 names Anjing's Shu embroidery creative park as a place where visitors can watch, try, and buy without inventing a 2026 price list. I will not invent a workshop fee or a street stall ranking. Those change.
The ICH page names the style in plain words: rigorous and fine, bright and even, sparse composition, thick and rounded forms, clear colour. You sit to watch a stitch, or to choose one finished piece you will actually use. You do not need a coach that sells "Shu embroidery" as a timed photo and a hard sell.
How to sit without a craft tour
Walk a lane in Anjing (Pidu District) or a city studio that already works by appointment. If a door is open and a table is free, sit. Say 蜀绣 (Shǔ xiù) or 川绣 (Chuān xiù). Ask to see one unfinished piece under the lamp. Photograph the needle only if the maker nods. Do not pose a finished panel you did not buy.

Is Shu embroidery the same as machine embroidery?
No. The national listing is hand embroidery as traditional fine arts. Machine work on a mall rack is a product. The craft you sit for is hand stitch under a lamp — the same official page that lists the twelve stitch families.
How do foreigners visit 蜀绣 without a craft tour?
Walk one Anjing or city studio lane. Say 蜀绣. Ask to watch one unfinished piece. Buy only if you already want the object. Pay by QR. This page does not invent 2026 prices or a booking URL. LocalKey does not sell a craft van.
Do I need a Chengdu shopping tour to see embroidery?

Is 蜀绣 a brand ranking or an official craft?
It is a technique, not a shop list. The national ICH record lists 蜀绣 as Ⅶ-21 from Chengdu. Sichuan's gazetteer and Culture and Tourism notes keep Anjing as the living base. I will not review a brand.
Is Shu embroidery the same as Suzhou embroidery?
No. Both sit on the national list — Ⅶ-21 for 蜀绣, Ⅶ-18 for 苏绣 — and both are hand embroidery. The Chengdu craft is western Sichuan colour and stitch families. How this sits in a Self-Guided or Tailor-Made week
The stitch does not need its own coach day. It can sit inside a Chengdu week you already chose — a morning after a teahouse on Chengdu teahouse experience, or a quiet half-day before you leave for elsewhere. Keep this as a craft sit, not a third attraction stacked between a panda park and a silk mall.
