Yes. Kunqu — 昆曲 — is a sit-down with a stage in Suzhou. One fold (折子戏), live flute and drums, bodies that move like ink. That is the craft. A locked van that sells "Chinese opera" as a costume photo and a hard sell is a different SKU.

The stage is a world listing, not a mall show
The China Intangible Cultural Heritage Digital Museum records 昆曲 as a national listing whose living companies sit mainly in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing and Hunan. The same craft entered UNESCO's first batch of Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2001, and the UNESCO directory page for Kunqu keeps that world frame. The official story places the form in Ming Jiangnan, with 《牡丹亭》, 《长生殿》 and hundreds of surviving folds as the working repertoire. That is a technique with a place. It is not a souvenir aisle.
Suzhou's own government keeps the same frame. The Suzhou municipal news page on 600 years of Kunqu names Jiangsu Suzhou Kunqu Theatre and the youth edition of 《牡丹亭》 as living transmission, not a tourist product. The Suzhou Culture and Tourism Bureau note on the world-list anniversary still ties public performances to Jiangsu Suzhou Kunqu Theatre and the city's fold-transmission plan. I will not invent a 2026 ticket price or a seat map. Those change.

How to sit without an opera tour
Buy a single evening or matinee from a working company board — Jiangsu Suzhou Kunqu Theatre is the municipal lock above — or a fold evening that already posts in English or Chinese. Walk in. Sit. Say 昆曲 (Kūn qǔ) or name one fold if you already chose it. Photograph the stage only if the house allows it. Do not stand in the aisle for a costume selfie during the aria.

Is Kunqu the same as Beijing opera?
No. Kunqu is its own form — older Jiangnan music theatre, flute-led, with folds that other forms later borrowed. Beijing opera is a different company system. This page is the Suzhou sit. I will not invent a ranking between them.
