Yes. Mount Wutai — 五台山 — is a sacred Buddhist mountain of five flat peaks in Xinzhou, Shanxi. That is the sit. The mountain is a World Heritage listing. The UNESCO World Heritage page for Mount Wutai records the property inscribed in 2009, criteria (ii)(iii)(iv)(vi), 18,415 ha plus a 42,312 ha buffer, dossier 1279, serial: yes. China's National Cultural Heritage Administration page titles the listing 五台山; places the heritage in 山西省忻州市; lists the same four criteria; dates the inscription to 2009; and does not publish a hectare figure on that page. UNESCO's short description calls the cultural landscape home to forty-one monasteries and names the East Main Hall of Foguang Temple — the highest surviving timber building of the Tang dynasty, with life-size clay sculptures — and the Ming dynasty Shuxiang Temple with a huge complex of 500 statues. UNESCO's Outstanding Universal Value brief synthesis, cited separately, calls Mount Wutai one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, the global centre for Buddhist Manjusri worship, and names fifty-three monasteries. Go toward 山西省忻州市 as NCHA places it: Xinzhou, Shanxi. The official files do not publish a 2026 bus number, gate price, or timed-entry table on those pages, so I will not invent either. Arrive at one mountain approach. Walk one open path the site already uses. Sit 台怀 or 佛光寺 if the site opens it. Say 五台山, or a named fabric — 佛光寺东大殿, 殊像寺, 菩萨顶, 塔院寺, 显通寺, 南山寺 — if you need a word. Photograph only if the site allows it. Do not buy a locked departure that sells every named temple plus a five-peak punch card as stop one through twelve on a commission morning.

What the two monastery counts and the two core zones actually lock
UNESCO's short description is one count: forty-one monasteries, Foguang East Hall as the highest surviving Tang timber building with life-size clay sculptures, and Ming Shuxiang Temple with 500 statues woven into three-dimensional pictures of mountains and water. UNESCO's Outstanding Universal Value brief synthesis is a second count on the same page: fifty-three monasteries, the same Foguang and Shuxiang locks, Manjusri worship, Northern Wei nine Emperors and 18 pilgrimages, and a living pilgrimage tradition to the five peaks. Cite each block as it stands. A page that writes "UNESCO 41/53" or "UNESCO 53" as if the short description said fifty-three has merged files that the source keeps apart.

Criterion (vi) is the fusion of natural landscape and Buddhist culture, with mountains named after Mount Wutai in Korea and Japan and in Gansu, Shanxi, Hebei and Guandong — quote Guandong as UNESCO writes it; do not "correct" the spelling.
