To visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, book a real-name ticket online up to 14 days ahead through the Base's official WeChat channels or an authorised platform such as Trip.com, choose a morning or afternoon slot, and bring the original valid ID you booked with, such as your passport; from March to October, morning entry runs 7:30–12:00 and afternoon entry 12:00–17:00.
How do you book tickets for the Chengdu panda base?
Visitors need an online real-name reservation, except seniors aged 60 and above and children under 6 or under 1.3 metres, who enter with their original valid ID; sales end once the daily quota is sold out. Tickets can be reserved up to 14 days in advance through the Base's official WeChat account or mini program, or through officially authorised platforms such as Meituan, Trip.com, Douyin, Tongcheng Travel and the "Chengdu Scenic Shuttle Bus" official WeChat account.
Each person needs one ticket, each ID can buy one ticket per day, and a ticket is valid for one entry on the day of visit during the reserved morning or afternoon slot. The 2026 National Day notice confirms that the Base continues full online real-name reservation and time-slot entry, and warns that tickets bought through non-official channels may fail at entry or at refund.
We suggest you book as soon as your dates are fixed, because sales end when the daily quota is sold out.
What are the panda base opening hours?
From March to October, morning entry runs 7:30–12:00 and afternoon entry 12:00–17:00; from November to February, morning entry runs 8:00–12:00 and afternoon entry 12:00–16:30. Park clearance begins at 18:00 and 17:30 respectively, as the table shows.
Panda base entry times
| Season | Morning entry | Afternoon entry | Park clearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| March to October | 7:30–12:00 | 12:00–17:00 | Begins at 18:00 |
| November to February | 8:00–12:00 | 12:00–16:30 | Begins at 17:30 |
We suggest a morning slot. Afternoon ticket holders should not arrive early, because the official English tickets page says early arrivals can face long waits.
What do you need on the day of your visit?
You must present the original valid ID document you used for your reservation when you enter, and a passport is an accepted original ID.
If you do not have the original document with you, you can show a photo of your ID at the "Channel for Visitors Without Original ID Documents" and enter after verification.
Plan to arrive on time for your reserved slot, and keep your booking confirmation and ID together so entry is quick.
How do you fit the panda base into a Chengdu trip?
We suggest a half day for the Base in the morning, then a relaxed afternoon in town. A teahouse afternoon in Chengdu is an easy way to slow the pace after the morning visit.
For the film and landscape story behind the Base, see The Real China Behind Kung Fu Panda.
We often suggest pairing Chengdu with a wider Sichuan or Chongqing route. You can see sample routes in Chengdu Private Tour 2026: Pandas, Sichuan Basin, and Chongqing Add-On and Xi'an and Chengdu Private Tour 2026. If you move between the two cities, our Chengdu to Chongqing by high-speed rail guide covers that leg.
LocalKey can arrange your Chengdu days, including the Base, as private China tours — planned, booked and backed by a 1:1 specialist and 7×24 WeChat/WhatsApp support. For an independent trip, choose our Independent option, where you travel on your own with the LocalKey app and 24/7 backup; there is no full-time guide on any day, and a local guide, airport pickup or a private car and driver are optional add-ons on demand. For a fully guided trip, choose our Private Guided option, which includes an English-speaking private guide and a private car throughout the trip.
If you are arriving from abroad, 240-hour visa-free transit can cover a stay in Chengdu, because Sichuan Province is among the permitted areas, so eligible travellers can include the city in a stay of up to 10 days. Our Chengdu destination page has more background on the city.
