People who search China group tours often want a planned trip without forty strangers. LocalKey does not sell China group tours. We run two live products: Self-Guided — bookings, an app roadbook, and WhatsApp or WeChat support — and Tailor-Made, a private car with an optional private guide. LocalKey is the visitor brand of Guangdong Xingcheng International Travel Agency, established in 2009. A fixed departure and a lecture from a tour leader are not what we sell.
I am Frank Zhang. I live in Suzhou. The search is honest. The product you land on is often not.
Coach group vs self-guided vs private car
Catalog operators still sell a coach as the default China trip. TravelChinaGuide, a long-running industry page, puts large groups at 30 people or more and small groups under 18, and says a group costs less because you split the vehicle and the guide (China group tour vs private tour). That math is real. It is also why the day belongs to the coach, not to you.
We do not run those departures. The table is so you can see what you are actually buying.
| Coach group | Self-Guided | Private car (Tailor-Made) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Group size | Often 18–40 people sharing a coach and one guide | You and the people you booked with | You and the people you booked with |
| Flexibility | Fixed departure dates and a locked itinerary | Your dates; trains, metro, and your own pace | Your dates; the car waits |
| Cost shape | Shared coach and guide pull the headline down | 丰俭由人 — hotels and trains at the level you pick | 丰俭由人 — car and optional guide scale with days and cities |
| Support | Tour leader for the whole coach | App roadbook plus WhatsApp or WeChat | Planner and driver; optional private guide |
If the table already answers the search, send a travel enquiry. Say whether you want Self-Guided or Tailor-Made. We will not put you on a coach.
Why do people search group tours?
Most people are not hunting a departure code. They want three things at once: a route that works, someone else to book the trains and hotels, and a person to message if a ticket fails. "Group tour" is the phrase search engines taught them for that bundle.
China still looks hard from the outside. High-speed rail, Alipay, two visa-free clocks, and city-to-city transfers show up in every forum thread. A packaged group looks like it solves all of it in one invoice.
Some searchers do want the social side: a tour leader, a shared dinner table, no decisions after breakfast. That is a real product. Other operators sell it. We do not.
The rest of the search is people who do not want forty strangers. They want the planning, not the coach. They typed the group query because independent travel still sounds like a weekend on rail apps and hotel WeChat.
What do you actually want?
Ask the question the search box cannot ask.
Do you want a locked departure date, a coach that leaves at 08:00, and a guide who lectures the whole bus? Then buy a group. Skip this page.
Do you want the hotels and trains booked, a day-by-day roadbook on your phone, and someone on WhatsApp or WeChat when a connection slips — while you walk the city on your own? That is Self-Guided.
Do you want a private car, a driver who waits, and an optional private guide who works for your party only? That is Tailor-Made.
Those two products are the only ones we sell. There is no third LocalKey group list, no guaranteed-departure calendar, and no "join our next Beijing–Xi'an–Shanghai coach."
Entry rules do not change with the product. Ordinary passports from 50 countries can use the 30-day unilateral visa-free. US and some other passports still use the 240-hour transit if they have a confirmed onward ticket to a third country or region, as the NIA English policy states. A group operator does not rewrite those stamps.
If you are traveling with children, older parents, or a tight work window, write that down first. A coach will not slow down. A self-guided day can. A private car can wait.
When is a group still the better buy?
Sometimes it is. I will send you away.
Buy a group if you want a tour leader talking to the whole coach, and you like that format. Buy a group if a fixed departure date is the point — you want to join a set that already exists, meet other travelers, and not design a route. Buy a group if the shared coach price is the only number that works for a solo traveler who does not want a private car.
TravelChinaGuide is blunt on this: groups cost less because you split the vehicle and the guide; private travel costs more because you do not (TravelChinaGuide). If that trade is the one you want, book it with a catalog operator. We will not invent a LocalKey departure to keep you on this site.
We are the wrong shop if you need a guaranteed weekly coach, a printed lecture at every site, or a social trip with strangers. Those are group products. We do not have them.
A group can also be the cleaner buy if you are traveling alone and you want company at dinner. Self-Guided and Tailor-Made are for your own party. We will not manufacture a room of strangers so the table feels full.
If you still want a planned China trip without the coach, stay.
How Self-Guided works?
Self-Guided is independent travel with the logistics already done.
We design the route with you. We book the hotels and the trains. You get a roadbook in the app: where to go, how to get there, what to do if a ticket does not scan. You travel with the people you came with. There is no coach and no shared tour leader.
Support sits in a WhatsApp or WeChat group. If a train is late or a hotel desk cannot find the booking, you write us. You still walk the city yourself. You still ride the metro. You still choose the restaurant.
This is the path for first-timers who can move on their own once the bookings exist. It is also the path for people who typed "group tours" because they did not want to piece together rail tickets, hotel deposits, and a visa clock at midnight.
Cost is 丰俭由人. Hotels and trains sit at the level you pick. We do not lock you to a coach-grade room so a group rate works.

How Tailor-Made works?
Tailor-Made is a private car and, if you want one, a private guide. The car is for your party. The guide, when you book one, works for you, not for a coach.
You still get a planned route and the bookings. The difference is ground transport and on-the-ground interpretation. Days can start later. A site can run long. You do not wait in a hotel lobby for twelve other rooms.
Cost is 丰俭由人. A couple on a short city run is a different number from a family moving between three cities with a guide every day. We do not publish a fake group price next to it.
This is the path if you want privacy, a driver, and the option of a guide who can stay with your questions. It is not a small-group tour with a cap of ten. It is private.
A private guide is optional. Some parties want the car and the driver, and they read the roadbook themselves. Some want a guide on the museum days only. Say which days matter. Do not buy a guide for a day you will spend on a train.

After you pick a path
Set up Alipay before you fly. Confirm whether you are on the 30-day visa-free list or the 240-hour transit. Then tell us the dates and who is traveling.
Send a travel enquiry. Self-guided with a roadbook, or a private car. Not a group.
