The short version

A practical 2026 logistics guide to booking Huangshan gate tickets, the opening hours, cableways, high-speed train access and how many days to plan.

Updated 8 October 2026 · LocalKey consultant team

To visit Huangshan in 2026, book a real-name, time-slot gate ticket on the official Huangshan Tourism platform at least a day ahead, take the high-speed train to Huangshan North; we suggest at least one full day on the mountain, a night up top for an early start, and two days if you also want a slower second day.

How do you book a Huangshan ticket as a foreign visitor?

The Huangshan Scenic Area limits visitor numbers and requires real-name, time-slot and direction-specific reservations, so you book first and travel second. Gate and cableway tickets are sold on the official Huangshan Tourism platform at www.huangshan.com.cn.

Before you go, these are the points we check with every client:

What to sort What the official notice says What we suggest
Gate ticket booking Book on the official Huangshan Tourism platform; avoid unofficial channels and "ticket grabbing" services Use only the official site or a booking arranged through LocalKey; never pay a third party for a slot
ID match The ID details on the booking must match the visitor Enter your passport details exactly as they appear on the passport
Booking lead time Book at least one day ahead, or at least three days ahead around statutory public holidays Book as soon as your dates are fixed, especially for weekends and holidays
Time slot and direction Enter in the booked time slot and from the booked direction Set your alarm for the slot and confirm the direction before you leave your hotel
Re-entry booking If you go in more than once, book the next entry on the official platform after your first check-in; offline windows no longer handle repeat-entry bookings Plan any second entry on the platform while you are still at the gate
Hotel inside the scenic area If you stay inside the scenic area, book the gate ticket in advance Book the gate ticket before you confirm a mountain hotel
Golden-week hours Hours during May Day, National Day and Spring Festival golden weeks are announced separately Check the platform the week you travel, not only the notice

The booking needs your passport details exactly as on the passport. LocalKey can book it for you, and we can also check the booking details with you before your trip.

Once you have a booking, keep the confirmation with your passport.

What are Huangshan's opening hours and cable cars in 2026?

From 5 March to 30 November 2026, the scenic area is open Monday to Friday from 07:00 to 17:10, and on Saturdays, Sundays and short public holidays from 06:30 to 17:40. From 1 December to 4 March, it opens every day from 08:00 to 16:40.

These hours come from the Management Committee's notice dated 4 March 2026.

  • Cableways: Yungu Cableway, Yuping Cableway and Taiping Cableway, running on the same hours as the scenic area
  • Transfer buses run on adjusted hours in step with the cableways
  • Hours can change for events or heavy bookings, and the times on the official platform prevail

The geopark's three main trails are Yungu to Beihai, Wenquan to Ciguangge, and Houtouyan to Diaoqiaoan. The Geopark Museum and Huangshan Museum explain the geology and culture of the area.

We suggest checking the official notice and the platform the week you travel, because hours can change at short notice. For a time-sensitive plan, we usually build in a margin before the last cableway.

How do you get to Huangshan by high-speed train?

The Hangzhou–Huangshan high-speed railway opened on 25 December 2018. The first train ran from Hangzhou East to Huangshan North, and the line is 265 km long.

We usually plan rail arrivals into Huangshan North (Huangshanbei).

Train tickets are sold on China Railway 12306. For a step-by-step account of booking there, see our 12306 train tickets for foreigners page.

The MTR High Speed Rail destination list, retrieved 8 October 2026, includes Huangshanbei (Huangshan North) among long-haul destinations from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, which is one option if you are travelling from Hong Kong.

If your itinerary uses 240-hour visa-free transit, Anhui Province is one of the 24 permitted provincial-level areas, so you can include Huangshan within the up-to-10-day stay. Check the 240-hour visa-free China guide for the transit rules that apply to you.

For sample routes that combine Hangzhou and Huangshan, see our Huangshan private tour sample routes via Hangzhou page.

Should you sleep on the mountain, and how many days do you need?

We suggest one full day on the mountain as a minimum. If you want an early start, we suggest one night on the mountain, so you do not have to come up from the valley that morning.

Plan the gate ticket first if you hold a mountain hotel, because a hotel inside the scenic area needs the gate ticket booked in advance.

We suggest two days if you want room to combine an early start with a second, slower day on the trails, and to allow for a change of plans if the weather or a booking shifts. We usually plan a second entry on a separate day only when the itinerary needs it, and we book that repeat entry on the official platform after the first check-in.

Huangshan's granite peaks rise above a sea of cloud, and Lianhua Peak (Lotus Flower Peak) reaches 1,864 m. The mountain has been celebrated in art and literature for centuries, including the Shanshui "mountain and water" painting style of the mid-16th century.
